OMA was founded in 2001 as an articulated set of projects developed by the CR Firenze Foundation, with the aim of promoting the artistic crafts sector. In 2010, OMA became a non-profit association of banking foundations, with headquarters and specialized staff in Florence, at the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation.
The OMA magazine (trib. Reg. Fi. N. 5728 of 3/06/2009) is the tool of the Association aimed at spreading the knowledge of the whole peninsula’s handicraft realities and expanding a network of national and international contacts. OMA promotes the projects in the sector but also the Italian productive realities. Since 2010 OMA has been organising an award ceremony for artisan workshops that stand out for the high quality of their productions and materials, for their non standardized production processes, for the use of traditional techniques, but also for the introduction of innovative technologies. During an official ceremony, skilled master craftsmen selected by OMA are given a ceramic plaque that certifies them as OMA Artisans.
